Inspired by café con leche with a twist, the Spanish iced latte uses sweetened condensed milk instead of regular milk and syrup. The result is luxuriously smooth, creamy, and dessert-like — while still highlighting the coffee.

Why condensed milk works

Sweetened condensed milk adds richness, sweetness, and body all at once. As it swirls into espresso and ice, it creates those beautiful white streaks and a velvety mouthfeel that regular milk can't match.

Ingredients (1 drink)

  • 36–40g espresso (double shot)
  • 30–45ml sweetened condensed milk (2–3 tbsp), to taste
  • 120g ice
  • 60ml cold milk or water (to lighten, optional)

How to make it

  1. Pull a double shot of espresso.
  2. Fill a tall glass with ice and pour the espresso over it.
  3. Slowly pour the sweetened condensed milk over the back of a spoon so it layers and swirls.
  4. Stir before drinking to combine — or sip layered for the drama.

Pro tips

  • Pour the condensed milk slowly for the best streaky layers.
  • Adjust the amount to taste — a little goes a long way.
  • Skip regular milk entirely for a richer, more authentic Spanish-style drink.

Key takeaways

  • Condensed milk replaces both milk and sweetener in one ingredient.
  • Pour slowly for beautiful layered swirls.
  • Stir before sipping to bring it all together.
