Sweet, buttery, and rich, the iced caramel latte is everywhere for a reason. That caramel finish feels like a small treat in the middle of the day, while the espresso keeps it grounded as a real coffee drink.

Why caramel works iced

Caramel's brown-butter sweetness contrasts beautifully with espresso's gentle bitterness and the creaminess of cold milk. Served over ice, it stays refreshing rather than heavy — especially with oat or almond milk, which add a richer texture.

Ingredients (1 drink)

  • 36–40g espresso (double shot)
  • 15ml caramel syrup (1 tbsp)
  • 120g ice
  • 150ml cold milk (oat or whole)
  • Caramel sauce, for drizzling (optional)

How to make it

  1. Pull a double shot of espresso.
  2. Stir the caramel syrup into the warm espresso until smooth.
  3. Drizzle caramel sauce down the inside of a tall glass, then fill with ice.
  4. Pour the sweetened espresso over the ice.
  5. Top with cold milk and stir gently.

Pro tips

  • Drizzle the sauce on the glass walls before ice for those photogenic streaks.
  • Oat milk amplifies caramel's toasty notes better than dairy.
  • Pair it with a salted caramel pastry for a true dessert moment.

Key takeaways

  • Stir syrup into warm espresso so it dissolves fully.
  • Drizzle caramel on the glass first for layered, streaky presentation.
  • Oat milk makes caramel taste toastier and richer.
