Smooth, sweet, and easy to make, the iced vanilla latte is the gateway drink that turns "I don't like coffee" people into regulars. It's also one of the simplest flavored lattes to nail at home.

Why vanilla endures

Vanilla is the perfect base flavor — clean, elegant, and universally loved. It sweetens without overpowering the espresso, and it plays nicely with any milk you choose. A touch of real vanilla (or a good syrup) elevates the whole glass.

Ingredients (1 drink)

  • 36–40g espresso (double shot)
  • 10–15ml vanilla syrup (2–3 tsp), or to taste
  • 120g ice
  • 140ml cold milk (oat works beautifully)

How to make it

  1. Pull a double shot of espresso.
  2. Stir the vanilla syrup into the hot espresso until blended.
  3. Fill a tall glass with ice and pour the sweetened espresso over it.
  4. Add cold milk, stir, then adjust the syrup by 5ml if needed.

Pro tips

  • Stir syrup into warm espresso first so it dissolves fully — cold syrup in cold milk can settle.
  • Add a tiny pinch of sea salt to deepen the vanilla.
  • For a refined version, use real vanilla bean scraped into the milk.

Key takeaways

  • Mix the syrup into warm espresso before icing for even sweetness.
  • Start with less syrup; you can always add more.
  • A pinch of salt makes vanilla taste richer, not saltier.
