Spiced, comforting, and refreshing all at once, the iced dirty chai latte is what happens when chai meets espresso. "Dirty" simply means a shot of coffee added to a chai latte — and over ice, it becomes a complex, aromatic drink with real character.

Why dirty chai works iced

Chai's spice blend (cardamom, cinnamon, clove, ginger) adds aromatic complexity that plain coffee lattes don't have. A shot of espresso grounds the sweetness and adds depth, and serving it cold makes the spices feel bright rather than heavy.

Ingredients (1 drink)

  • 36–40g espresso (double shot)
  • 120ml chai concentrate (or strong brewed chai, sweetened to taste)
  • 120g ice
  • 120ml cold milk (oat or whole)

How to make it

  1. Pull a double shot of espresso.
  2. Fill a tall glass with ice and pour in the chai concentrate.
  3. Add the cold milk and stir.
  4. Slowly pour the espresso over the top for a layered "dirty" look, then stir before drinking.

Pro tips

  • Use a rich chai concentrate for the boldest spice flavor.
  • Pour the espresso last for the signature layered look.
  • Adjust the chai-to-milk ratio to your preferred spice level.

Key takeaways

  • "Dirty" just means a shot of espresso added to a chai latte.
  • Pour espresso last for layered presentation.
  • A good chai concentrate does the heavy lifting.
